So I’m thinking about getting a derasa clam in the nearish future I’ve got two flat shelves where I’m planning on putting it, tank is the 32.5 Fluval flex marine bone stock but I’m planning to buy the optional second light, should I put the clam on the higher or lower shelf with that light setup?

Neither place. You're better off securing it on a flat surface near/on the sand. It will most likely tumble to the sand from both of those locations. Just make sure you have enough light wherever you put it. If you haven't done so already, buy James Fatherree's new book on clams. It's a must read for all clam keepers.
