There are mixed reviews with asterina starfish. Some say the darker colored ones eat coral, while others say they are all safe or all bad. I personally remove them when I see them just to be cautious.

Yup looks like an asterina. I’m one of the opinion they’re good until they’re not. Mine haven’t been an issue to my knowledge

I’ve got a bunch. To my knowledge they have never caused a problem. Could add harlequin shrimp they eat them
harley needs 100's to survive
 
Well, I put him back. He's been in there for quite awhile, this was the first I was able to catch him. No problems so far, if I see them start to proliferate, I'll pull them.
