Good started tank for my brother

So I plan on getting a saltwater tank for my brother this Christmas. I am aiming for a innovative marine 30 or 40 gallon. If anyone has an opinion on which is better besides “the larger the tank, the more room for mistakes” your opinion is welcome. Later when I have more details, I will run the stocking choice by but it will be beginner fish. Since my family has 10 fish tanks, we have someone that comes and maintains some of them (especially the 220 gallon freshwater discus tank) Maintenance wont be a problem but any other advice is welcome. Please share your thoughts!

I started out with a Fluval Flex 32.5 gallon and loved it. Haven't had IM tanks but I do use their products. I'd love to see a picture of that discus tank!!!
