I have a 300 Gal. display tank with heavy SPS. I really like Trigger fish and want to put one in my tank...... I am hoping to get some ideas on what everyone's experience has been, and see if their is a consensus list of reef friendly triggers.

Thanks!

The Blue throat trigger may be your best bet since they are planktivores and pretty unlikely to munch on your CUC. I have also seen some pink tail triggers in a few reef tanks.

Your best bet would be any Xanthicthys sp. trigger. They are (mostly) phlanktivores in the wild, so they eat kinda the same stuff an anthias and such, and are pretty peaceful too. They do pose a risk to small shrimp, but not always. I am actually planning to add a Xanthicthys ringens (red tail trigger) to my 220g mixed reef soon.
If you don't like the Xanthicthys triggers, you could always go with a niger trigger, which is more of a danger to shrimp and such, or POSSIBLY a Melichthys vidua, or pinktail trigger. these may eat very small fish like firefish, but for the most part should behave pretty well. Do realize, NONE of the fish I've mentioned are a risk to all to any corals, whether stony or soft, so that could be good to remember.
So yeah, any one of these triggers should do well in a reef, but my strongest recommendation would be any Xanthicthys.
Good luck!
