Ok, the XSi is a great camera, but it's just didn't feel right in my hand. So, back into the box, over to Costco, and boom, now I have a nice, new EOS 50D. Who cares if my kids won't have shoes this winter. I'll take some REALLY nice pictures of other people's shoes.

Here's the first shots with the Tamron 90....

I think you'll be very happy with the XSi. I came from using a Nikon F3 35MM with autowinder, then a fuller size Olympus Digital, so it was really just a "what I'm used to" with the grip on the XSi. The Rebel is a great camera, you'll love it. Costco has a great deal on it right now if you're a member. Best part, you have 90 days to return it if you don't like it.

Kigs - The live view is great, really makes those tripod shots easy to setup and zoom in for focus detail.

Great pictures!! I have a decent camera and lens and I just suck at taking pictures...... I practice and practice.........

My eyes just are not good enough to do manual focus. Maybe thats why I cant get the detail that I am looking for. By live view, do you mean that what is seen through the lens will be seen on the LCD screen? Something like the point and shoot type cameras?
I have a Canon rebel XTI and a 58mm macro lens. I plan to upgrade to the Canon 100mm Macro.

Live view is just that, what you see through the viewfinder shows up on the LCD. One of the nice features is that you can compose the shot, and then zoom in on a section of the image on the LCD to make focusing better.

Also, if you haven't yet, read Junior's how-to. The problem you're having could be a depth-of-field issue and he covers that in the sticky.

I have a xti I really like it, you can do a lot of things with it especially if you get different lenses. I have wanted to upgrade for awhile but the money thing doesn't help. I was just looking at the 50d yesterday at costco, looks like a great camera wish i could get one.
