Gorgonian with missing flesh

I just got 10 lbs live rock from gulfliverock.com yesterday. It came with this gorgonian? At least I think it's a gorgonian.

The flesh around the base is missing. Does that mean it's going to keep deteriorating? And if not, can you tell if this is photosynthetic? Or should I be feeding it something?

I couldn’t tell you if it’s a photosynthetic one or not.
The flesh should heal up given good care. Every time that’s happened to my gorg it has bounced back (cramped tank - no place to put it where something won’t be stinging it - it’s gonna love it’s bigger tank in a few weeks).

Just an update to say all the flesh grew back and it's already growing bigger.
