I have both of the main types of gorgonian corals in my tank
A purple fan photosynthetic
A red with white polyps non-photosynthetic
They are both in high flow areas.

I have a couple of questions...

Iv had the no-phyto for about 2 months and theres some dye off where algae has grew on the corners, I have started brushing off the algae with a toothbrush but will the coral grow back over the dead spots?

What types of gorgonians have people had the most success with? There by far my favourite coral and about 6 years ago I had a tank full of them but it's hard to find colours/shapes I want for this tank

That's a beautiful tank. What size is it?

The gorgonian will continue to grow outward. Haven't seen them encurst like you are wondering. Just keep up your tank parameters and you should be ok.

I have the same gorges you stated and others, and love them all !
They are in high flow areas, but will get some cyno or algae on them (tank still under a year old and getting better) and tend to catch stuff floating around the tank. I use a turkey baster to blow them off a lot.
If left unchecked, that part of the coral will die off.
I've had some branches die or break off and the pieces will land in the tank somewhere else and grow with polyps wherever the landed i.e...laying down or whatever.
The polyps on mine tend to come out when my water is very clean since they don't like particulates hitting them.
The hermits and cleaner shrimp use them as ladders and make the polyps go in too.

Your tank looks great, good luck.

Cheers tubes

Its 2x2.5x2ft I know the main stem can encrust over the platform it's on so was hoping it would do the same on dye off parts, the secions that are separate because of the dead spots have a different cycle now Asif there a different coral

It might just be stressed a bit as to why it's on a different cycle.

The base is entrusting (growing) just as the branches grow outward.

Also, I hope you have future plans for your convict tang as they should be in a 100+ gallon to have the swimming room. You should be good now, he dont loom like he is that big. Just have a plan B for when he gets larger.

Ah yeah hes going in the bigger tank as is the regal tang when I can get around to catching them lol

Bigger tank??!!

Do you have a build thread? If your small tank looks nice your big tank had got to be super.....

Sorry for the late reply, it's not as nice as the cube, it's not long been up and running. I'll get some pics when I get home over the weekend bud
