Hey y’all just bought a dying orange GORGONION from the LFS he sold it to be for $5. It is covered in white algae build up and waste. I will post pics when home. ANYTGING I can do to save him ASAP. The GORGONION was in a no flow area of the tank which weirded me out.

thank you

That is likely a nonphotosynthetic gorgonian, and likely a difficult one to keep alive (looks like https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/1519/yellow-finger-gorgonian-expert-only need to see polyps). Keep it out of the light (keeps off algae growth), in high flow, and feed fine particulate foods.

In my experience, that isn't actually enough, but if you can offer some planktonic frozen foods (maybe rotifers, copepods, oyster feast, etc.) maybe you can keep it going without live foods.

What happens when it dies? If it does can it harm my dwarf seahorse fry that hold onto the branches?

It turns red. You can give it Good light and water flow to help revive But seahorses will not tolerate either. Phyto plankton feeding in the evenings. Mine is over two years and does well

Yours looks beautiful, by the way I put the GORGONION in my display tank where flow is a 210 gph powerhead and lights are running. I plan to add it to my seahorse tank in 7 days. However a death of this will
Not harm the seahorses as they grasp on to the branches?

It should not. They have no toxins and break down to twigs when dead

I appreciate the response as always very helpful! I am running very low light that came with the original Fluval flex. Is it good to have some lights so the baby seahorses can see the bbs more eaisly? I noticed a diatoms bloom with more light usage!

I have fields of these orange flower looking things in my sand and rocks. I am worried they are colonies of clinging hydromedusa?

Can’t see orange objects but light is likely the issue with gorgonian
