Got a letter from my Water Department. Help please.

just got a letter from my local water treatment department. For the past year they noticed a high level of Total Trihalomethanes.

"Maximum allowed TTHM levels is 80 ppb. ". They found my area to average 88.42 ppb over the last 12 months.

Ive been struggling with Acros for past year and a half or so. No apparent reason behind the issue. Ive had successful SPS dominant tanks for last 10 years. Im wondering if this could be the reason, and if so, how do i resolve?

BTW- I do run an RO/and DI x 2, system for all my aquarium water needs.

Do you use a ro/di filter. If not I would recommend it. If you do maybe step it up to use 2 ro membrains and 2 di resins stages

Actually adding more carbon to a ro/di setup might help also

TTHM is a chlorine byproduct. Anything you use to reduce chlorine and byproducts will remove TTHM. If you use a RODI the carbon step should remove this without any issues. It will result in you needing to change carbon more regularly.

I am not sure if a TDS will pick them up as they should be a dissolved gas.

I think it very unlikely to be an issue. An ordinary hobbyist RO/DI system will remove most of these (90+%), and I'd be surprised if they were likely to show obvious issues in a reef anyway. At elevated levels in potable water, these are very long term health risks, not substances that will show immediate effects.

A TDS meter cannot detect them at all.
