I picked up a small BTA today. It was wrapped around a branch of rock at the LFS, so the guy dropped the whole lot into a bag for me. I brought it home and it was still wrapped firmly around the rock, so I just plopped it into the tank after acclimatization. A few hours later, it seems to be fully expanded, however, its still wrapped around the rock. Is it trapped?

Here's a vid of it just after introduction.

Here's a vid of it after a few hours, all inflated.

Hmm video isn’t loading for me. Picture?
If the anemone is inflated and not bleached, it is a good sign.

It's inflated and not bleached. (It's only a few hours after introduction)

But is it possible for a nem to get trapped? I would have thought that with their squishy bodies, they'd be like octopuses which can slide and squeeze practically anywhere... I was prepared to watch the fella slither all over while settling into the tank...

I’ve had them hide in the crevices in rock work when first introduced. You should be OK.

They will move around to find a spot, but you may never see them move. They may hide in a hole in a rock. You are right, they can squeeze into very tiny spaces. I highly doubt they would squeeze into a place and get stuck. I think you’re fine.

Thanks for the replies guys... Puts my mind at ease...

The BTA has REALLY expanded overnight!
But because its still mostly wrapped around the branch, I can't tell where its mouth is...

Just an update. It expanded and contracted a few times over the past hours, now I can finally see its mouth.
But with regards to the branch of coral, it really does look like it had a hole poked into it. If it truly is the case, will it be ok?

It kind of looks like it has recently split and hasn't healed up yet. It looks like theres torn white tissue where the mouth would be- anemones usually split across the mouth and neither half has an actual mouth hole for a week or 2 while it heals back together.

I’ve had similar things happen to my BTAs and they recovered quickly with no problems. They’re pretty hardy
Thanks for the reassurance.

Maybe the pic didn't come out clearly, but there's definitely a mouth. In fact the wifey remarked that it kinda resembled a ***** last night. ;Muted

Update on the bta... It's deflated quite a fair bit. Most likely due to my screw up in salinity. Need to raise it back up gradually. Hopefully he recovers. He's still rooted to the same spot though...

My anemones do a water change when I do one some times. They deflate expelling old water and reinflate with new water.

So it looks a little more inflated today...
And my clown started getting cozy with it!

Update... What looked like the bottom part is no longer connecting the two parts of the anemone. Strongly suspect it's split.
