I thought you all might like to see this. This is a clients sump , that will soon be replaced . The tank is a beautiful 300 gallon that we are going to re-plumb and replace the sump. It’s a shame that the sump is so full of these things because it’s wonderful mature refugium with tons of micro fauna. I hate to tear it down but it has to go due to plumbing issues.

Yeah, looks like my overflow a few months back
I squirted kalkwasser solution into the area and slowly they diminished to none

Why not get an army of berghias?

Uour post reads like you’re tossing everything from the fuge so you can kill the aptasia as well.

Hello Vetteguy5381, Does you kalkwasser trick work on big and small aptasia? Do you target a few at a time and then get them out slowly that way?

Thanks!

Get an army of them? What happens when aptasia are gone? They still have to eat. Best is kalk paste or a few as they lay eggs and baies eat too.

The last line of my original post clearly states the sump has to be replaced due to plumbing issues
It also states you are getting rid of all of the micro fauna which makes it come across as you are also restarting the entire fuge

Kalk paste is only the best If your name is Mr fantastic with unlimited patience lol for a big outbreak like that anyway.

Rehome them or start an aptasia farm and sell to other reefers. Really not a difficult problem to solve.

Can you elaborate on this a bit. I have a bunch growing in my overflow now also.
I call 'it didn't work' for lack of the normal term due to tos.
Squirting Kalk paste in an overflow will for sure produce many many more. May not see them now but in a few weeks to a couple months, they will be back.

I capped my sump once and poured bleach in the overflow I was so fed up with aptaisia. Killed them but still had them in the display.
I have used berghia twice in my current display. I have 4 aptaisia that I can see (and I constantly look). I killed a few off 2 months ago with lemon juice and tweezed them off my clam. They have not returned.

Best bet is natural predators and patience.

I took a pipette with kalkpaste and ran across the heads of aptasia twice and Yes they are gone. Some ended up in sump and waiting for them was my Kleini butterfly. I have No aptasia

The kalkwasser method is simply buying kalk powder, mix it with some water into a paste, Put the paste into a syringe and squirt it onto the anemone. The kalk paste will melt them away.

Yes I'm familiar but his original post made it seem like it was direct applied but poured into the overflow.
