My old tank crashed coz of ich and I guess I did not learn my lesson and now I got ich again.

Anyways, I will take all my 20 fishes out and QT them and let the tank run fallow for 76 days (1 cleaner shrimp, 5 Nassarius Snails) - Hopefully the invertebrates are not a problem.

Now here is my question, keeping the tank fallow for 76 days is definitely hard and sad, so I was thinking of working with it by setting up corals in it.

So not removing the invertebrates and setting up corals will cause any issue with ich or any bacteria cycle?

Please Advice

Adding anything wet will have a chance of introducing new parasites into the tank.
Keeping your current inverts in there won’t cause any harm.

Bacteria, no. Ich, maybe.

Part of the ich life cycle is encysting on a hard surface which may include rock, glass, plastics as well as crustacean shells and corals/coral plugs. In theory each new coral addition could be hosting ich, and thus reset the counter on your fallow period.

Will dipping corals not work either?

Not to my knowledge. Encysted ich is awfully hard to kill, requiring boiling, bleach or being left dry for 24 hours. Even the copper treatments we use only target the free swimming stage.

O wow, yeah that makes total sense.
What are doing with your situation? I saw a post about you getting into the battle of ich too....what are you going to use to treat your fishes?

I was thinking 2 methods

Method 1 - Copper, Prazi and Furan 2
Or
Method 2 - Ich X, General Cure and E.M. Erythromycin

What you think?

Method 1 best as ich X very strong

I have had total success and used this in a mixed reef . . . . .
Polyp Lab "MEDIC". Worked quickly and its been 9 weeks- No return of ich

Ich X contains formalin which may significantly reduce the lifespan of the fish being treated. Gloves, goggles, and other forms of PPE are necessary when working with formalin as it is a ‘probable human carcinogen’.
Most treatment methods are best used in a separate quarantine tank.

I grew tired of quarantining everything and slapped 80 watts of UV on my tank. Not a single spot of ich, velvet, brook, etc... since. Its been running for over a year. I’ve even added fish with visible ich to the tank and it never came back.
There are many misconceptions when it comes to UV sterilizers. Proper flow, placement, and bulb replacement is imperative to the overall functionality of the unit.

I am very sorry to tell you my friend, but your fish have a death sentence. They may make it months or years, but the outcome is certain if you maintain this course of action. Please take this from someone who is in the middle of experiencing painful loss and scrambling to set up a 125 gallon QT system.
I too have the best And most powerful UV sterilizer in my DT. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean your fish are immune from it. It is delusional to think that your fish will beat it or learn to live with it. If you don’t go fallow, you are responsible for the outcome. I really wish someone would have told me this. Instead, I searched online for posts that justified my ignorant course of action (non action).

I feel horrible for the fish pets that I have killed, while I rationalized the magic of UV sterilizers, of which I have 3. If you love your fish, do the right thing.

I have a 57 watt running on my 220 at 200 gph, so yeah I see the ich come and go...but this time I need it gone for good and stop my heart ache everytome lol

LOL
Ill get back to you in another year. Ive been in the hobby for a little over 8 years. Over those 8 years i’ve had far more success with this UV than quarantining everything.
All of my fish are happy & spawn regularly.

To each is own and I wish you and your fish all the best. As fate would have it, we are both members of the same reefers club (BAR). All I ask is that you let everyone know about your Ich management technique at the next frag swap. Seems like a fair disclosure to me.

lol. How blessed we are to have the all knowing among us.

I do. I’ve sold many fish that go on and do very well. I have fish in that tank that I’ve kept for over 7 years and they’re still doing great. Hopefully you can wake up and see that there isn’t only a single approach to it.
Sad, stressed, or diseased fish wouldn’t be spawning as mine have for the past few years.
Even harder to keep and more sensitive fish.
I used to quarantine everything and had a whole cabinet full of Copper, acriflavine, formalin, chloroquine phosphate, antibiotics, antifungal, etc etc...
After treating hundreds of fish with decent results I decided to try a different approach

57 watts its not enough for a 220 gallon system.
I run 80 on my 150 and my friend runs 120 on his 220.
@550 and 650gph respectively.

What you think?

For the moment, I will be just managing it, while I set up a much larger, new tank. Once that is good to go, I'm thinking hypo or tank transfer method before going into the clean tank.
