Got my first coral today!!! Super excited.

I got a tongue coral at the LFS today. I payed 30 bucks for it. Seemed like a good deal for its size it's about four inches square. I hope my lighting is good enough for it, the guy at the store said low to moderate light and everything I've seen online says higher light. Anything special I need to know?

Enjoy and watch your water parameters. I've had good luck with them but you have to be certain they don't get sand constantly dropped on them

It sure does look like a Galaxea coral to me. Be sure to leave allot of room around it, they can put out some long sweepers.

It does kind of look like some of the pictures of galaxea. The picture that I posted doesn't show the back side. It basically looks like you arched your tongue then sawed off the end with a band saw. Kind of like I got the end of a long thin creature as opposed to a circular thing. Does that make sense?

I am inclined to think Tongue coral/Polyphyllia as well, you just do not see this coral much in the hobby anymore. In the 80-90's this coral was pretty popular. Same requirements as with all stony corals, maintain stable ca/alk/mag levels, mod flow and mod lighting. It's a pretty hardy coral. Congrats on your first coral, hold your wallet dearly because once you start buying corals it's hard to stop.;Nailbiting

Ha ha a retro tank!! I like it. Considering the size of it it seemed like a good value. I feed my fish brine shrimp already. What else would be a good treat for it?

Any quality frozen foods or slurry. Introduce a small amount of food, wait 20-30 minutes, look for a feeding response from the corals, then add the rest of the food. You can also target feed meaty sea foods and quality pellets, hermits and shrimp may steal most of that, you may need to cover the coral for feedings.
