Hi,

I bought 2 new pieces of live rock today and they are certanly alive, we have seen the above hitchicker, about 1cm long and also a couple of translucent little things of about half the size, very quick little things but no idea what either are.

any ideas on what they might be and if they are safe for my aquarium, I only have 2 red legged hermit crabs in there at the moment but will be looking to introduce coral and fish in future.

thanks

KINDA hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like it has bristley things radiating down its body. So if that is accurate, I'd say bristle worm. I think they can be a pest if the detritus in your tank gets out of control and they either get huge or the population explodes. Other than that I don't think they are goint to dine on anything you put in. ... that is if it is a bristle worm.

Looks like a bristle worm to me :) If they stay relatively small, they're harmless. Just DON'T TOUCH THEM! Their sting packs a nasty punch. They are good detrivores as well.

Bristle worms.
Great parts of CUC, BUT they can overpopulate and get huge. I take out the huge ones every now and then out of my tanks to keep the population under control..That is if the wrasses don't see them first.
