Got my first Lux Meter! Where to go from here?!

i recently moved my lights up higher due to a larger canopy I built. So I bought a light meter to see what my strengths are. Can somebody tell me what exactly I'm doing with it and what readings or ranges I'm supposed to be in from top of tank to bottom. There is everything from sps, lps, softies, ect. I have a 72 gal bowfront.

And I can put the sensor in the water yes? Cause it doesn't say that it "is or isnt" water proof lol

Already replied on your other thread, but...

In a nutshell, I'd measure at the surface and infer other data from there. (You can watch where the meter's shadow lands on the rocks to see what surface measure applies to a particular location on the rocks.)

Underwater measurements are subject to too many water-effects (waves, particulates, color, etc) to be worth doing IMO...especially since plain surface measurements work!

And I don't think that meter is waterproof anyway...to answer your question.

Anywhere from around 20,000 lux to 80,000 lux is "good". Even down to 10,000 lux. More than 80,000 lux can be too stressful for some corals. Around 40,000 lux is a "happy medium".
