Got my seneye from ReefRadiance today

I ordered a Seneye reef from ReefRadiane during their 3 day R2R super sale. I mainly bought this thing for the PAR meter, as I got it for 100 bucks and it can measure PAR, Lumens, and Spectrum. That in itself is a super deal, but it took what felt like forever to get here to me. They claim the PAR sensor is designed for underwater aquarium use, making it more accurate than more expensive commonly used PAR meters. I am going to try and find somebody with a par meter so I can compare the readings. Another interesting feature I was not aware of, inside the Seneye software they have a section that says they have a NH2, NH3, KH, GH, and Cal measuring capabilities on its way. This sounds very exciting. One thing I was not aware of, the Seneye is never supposed to come out of your aquarium, not a bad thing just didn't realize that.

The software installation is easy, and takes about three minutes, and setting up an account is fairly simple. When I first installed it, it said I needed to upgrade to use the light sensor...the upgrade was $78!! I was not happy about this, but after about fifteen minutes of being hooked up to the computer this message went away and the light meter seems to be working now.

It says to leave the seneye connected to your computer for an hour without using it upon initial installation, so a little later I'll take some PAR readings and post up the results. My slide is soaking, which is supposed to soak in aquarium water for 48 hours before use in a reef tank. After it is finished I'll compare the readings to my other probes and test kits. I like the idea of precalibrated test strips, it sucks they are only good for a month...I doubt they actually go bad but the company needs you to keep buying them to make money. Like buying new test kits...30 for three months isn't to bad. Hopefully the new parameter test kits are similar priced when they are released.

I got mine as well about a week ago from rick at reef radience. I got it for other reasons but so far I've been quite impressed. I think you no2 and no3 not nh2 and nh3. Make sure you click on MARINE check box on the smaller pop up window (not the Internet dashboard). The bottom right corner will have a lock icon. Click that then check the marine icon

I don't see that check box, are you saying it Monitors NO2 and NO3 already? I see where it has the acceptable range listed in my settings.

Edit: nevermind I found the Maine check box. It is at the bottom of the current readings tab, unlock it, then check the marine box.

Haha in your paragraph I think you switched it up a bit. It monitors nh3 and nh4 already but it doesn't monitor no2 and no3. You wrote that eventually it will monitor nh2 and nh3. You found the check box for marine? Only other thing is once your slide is ready, install it in the seneye underwater in your tank. I made that mistake and i left an air bubble in there and it threw off some readings.

Yeah, that is a typo meant NO2 and NO3 in the first post.

It says they are already developed and waiting on international patent protection, they were hoping it would be available for beta testing in the first quarter. When I click on settings the monitor ranges are already listed, I'll get a screen shot and post it up.

According to my seneye, I am getting about 500 par at the top of my rock work which is about 2/3 of the height of my tank. About 350-400 at mid level and around 250 at the sand bed. I run two 250 14k mh halides, one on a ice cap ballast, and one on a lumatek selecta watt e ballast. I also have two 80 w blue+ t5s. The par readings seem about what I see on other tanks with similar setups. With my tank being five and half feet long, at the outer edges near the top of the rockwork I am getting 210 par, which seems dead on. I noticed the light meter is very directional dependent.

I do have one issue though, it does not seem to be getting my full spectrum and is saying my spectrum is not a kelvin. These bulbs are basically brand new, so I tested it under my frag tank under two coral+ and two blue+ and it said the same thing...not a kelvin. It basically isn't measuring any red light from any light source when under water.

I've not messed with the PAR meter much but I did see similar PAR under my 250w halides as you,but it was just a quick hold it under the light to see the meter move,nothing definite,I've not checked my LEDs yet either.....

I have noticed that mine will show a Kelvin rating every once in a while but not all the time,I just assumed it was because mine is just floating around and not aimed toward the light,I know my PAR rating is way low according to it with it just floating in there....

hopefully Rick will jump in here and let us know more about it or if it is an issue with it....
