So I got my Super Reef Octopus PS-1000int skimmer today. I have to say this thing is a beast, it uses the bubble blaster hy-1000 pump and that thing is insane I have never seen a skimmer creating foam quite like this. The even crazier thing is I have had this thing setup and running in my sump now for about an hour and a half and there is already about 1/4" of green skimmate in the collection cup. This thing makes my old cpr bakpak look like a tinker toy. I think this will definitely make a nice improvement for my 70 gallon cube. I think the cpr bakpak was just too small of a skimmer it worked ok to start off with since I was using all hang on equipment, but now that I got an external overflow box and a sump setup I decided I needed to get a proper in sump skimmer. We will see how it continues to work over time.

Here is a pic of the performance so far.

This thing is skimming like a champ. I thought skimmers were supposed to have a period that they "break in" My LFS told me since I was leaving for vacation on wednesday that I should just let it run wide open with no skimmer cup while I am gone to break in and then adjust it when I get back that way I'd be around to monitor it. But I couldn't resist just having it all set up and working and it seems to be working fine still about 3x as much skimmate in the cup now as there was when I posted the pic earlier, the water level in the skimmer hasn't really changed at all since I started it up and seems to be producing a consistent amount of skimmate. I am just wondering if it is working fine tomorrow and tuesday should I be worried with it running while I am in florida from wed-sun?

If the skimmer does overflow does the overflow just go into the sump. If that is the case there should be no problem.

I have one of these as well....does a better job than the BK Mini 160 Gen II I had before it.

Wow that's impressive that it performed better than your bubble king.

Yeah if the cup were to overflow it would go right into the sump

I don't think I will have a problem with it as it has filled the cup a bit more since earlier today.

It also seems like this thing has pulled as much skimmate in just a few hours as my cpr bakpak did in a couple days.

Well I emptied the cup this morning as it was about 1/3 full and when I got home there is about 1/4" of dark brown almost black skimmate in the cup and foam still settling in the cup. I think it will need some adjustment still as it seems it's skimming pretty dry now. But I like the looks of the skimmate and the bubbles in the neck of the skimmer are alot smaller now.
