Got myself in a jam concerning Q/T salinity & Am ??

Hello I have a question about raising salinity . So can I do a 50% water change using 1.025 water on a 20 gallon tank with 1.022 salinity. with out raising the salinity too fast? About how much will it raise the salinity?
I screwed up & overfed this new fish. This morn The water was cloudy & there was a little color On the AM badge. I right away dosed some Amquel & added carbon. Surely the HOB filter wasn't ready for the heavy feeding. I was ready with water but didn't expect such a quick rise in Am. I can always drop the salinity of the new water just wonder if just using this is going too fast. I need to do this right away ! Thanks.

Doing a 50% water change with those salinity parameters will yield you a new salinity of 1.0235. A 0.0015 rise in salinity shouldn't be too hard on your fish, so long as they're not already extremely stressed. If you are seeing ammonia, raising the salinity a bit is a small price to pay to lower those levels. You can always dilute your new salt water with RODI water to match the salinities.

I can easily do that Just wondered if the higher salinity would be ok. I think I'll add a gl of ro & use that.

I'm confused. What is the primary goal? if it is to raise salinity, water changes are not the best way. Replace evaporated water with seawater.

Thanks Randy, that was my game plan thus the new water barrel with A higher salinity.. However I overloaded the filter & got some AM & cloudy water. So now I need to do big water change. Will have anew AM reading here in just a few mins. I'm bringing the salinity down in the new water as we speak
Am reads zero right now. Don't trust the test kit.
