I picked up two used Mars 165w off craigslist. Sorry for foolish questions but:
A. How high off the water surface should I mount these? I want to have them turned down as far as possible so that I don't have to listen to the cooling fans.

B. How often and how do you clean the lenses?

C. Any suggestions on mounting them? I almost went with something like the kessil 700 just because you can get mounting brackets for them.

A: These lights, unless you remove the lenses, are a very focused beam of light, they need to be mounted fairly high off the waters surface for the light to spread out. The good thing though is that they have a considerable amount of power and even at a higher mounting height don't need to be turned up alot. I'd start at 12" off the waters surface and see how that goes. You can always adjust higher if needed.
B. Personally I do weekly wipe downs of my equipment. You can probably go longer, but sunday is maintenence day for me and that's when I do it.
C: Mounting can be as easy as hanging from the ceiling using cables and drywall anchors. Using wall hanging brackets such as the ones from Giesmann, or universal shelving brackets from your local hardware store

I made my mount for a black box out of painted pvc. New phone since i had the light no pictures, but was similar to a monopod with 90 degree on top. Bottom connected to a T. each leg of the T was another T. Then used a lag bolt and large washer to attach the wire mounts to the pvc section off the elbow. Attached the monopod to the wall with pipe mounts. Any weight bearing area used pvc cement. Where the light mounted i also inserted small piece of rebar before capping

Thanks everyone and thanks for the welcome. For the longest time I just had no lights and was doing fish only. I ripped everything down and am going reef now. Man this is an expensive hobby lol.
