It’s a species of Porifera...sponge! Sponges are reef safe and are filter feeders, however, they can encroach corals like what is illustrated in your picture. This can cause your coral to not open up, become smothered or die due to reduced light.
You have two options...either remove the sponge or remove the polyps before it’s too late.

I have a good feeling that it is because of the waste/ nitrogen/phosphates released by the said Zoanthids and Palythoas offer sponges a constant source of food, being that sponges are filter feeders.

How I got my sponge to go away was with more skimming and move affected areas to more light and it always died off.
