I have only been in the hobby for 10 months, but I am sooooo hooked. My first tank was a 120 gallon mixed reef. I found that there were things I wanted but they needed special set ups that could not be in my reef tank such as a peacock Mantis. So I then put together a 40 gallon for the Mantis which shares his home with a coral beauty, pajama cardinal and yellow fin damsel and corals. They all get along great. I then found myself really wanting a porcupine puffer and lionfish and of course they need space so that meant I had to go bigger.
So the hunt began. I searched all the marketplaces looking for that bigger tank that I could afford. I finally came across a 240 for sale for $600, but it was three hours away. My husband being so supportive said “Road Trip!”. So off we went. Before we could say anything the seller said take it all for $500....SOLD. So we set a date for the following weekend to pick it up. Thank goodness we have a F450 with an eight foot bed...(my beast), gather some friends and family and we picked it up.
I was only really interested in the tank itself. Something I could build off of. It did come with a stand, canopy, wet/dry sump, plumbing and pumps,l but was way to short for any good sized skimmer I will need to put in. So my wonderful husband said he would build me one out of 2 inch steel beams. I knew I wanted a a lot of room for me to work in, high enough to see the tank over the bar height table that is in the room, and a completely open front for access if possible. So my husband took measurements, weights, and researched what was needed to support the weight, and off he went to build.
Here are the pics from the original tank. I already scrapped the black paint on glass. Wanted it a deep ocean blue.
Here are some pics of husband making new stand and tank set up. Had him spay the stand to match the blue I was putting on the back glass.
