GoVols: Red Sea S-400

Still running the A100 at 50ish%? How fierce is the surf if you open it all the way up?

Yeah,
Still at the same setting and running at about 80 degrees.

When I hit about 75% with the down pipe wide open it sucks my S-400's sump dry, and it's too much flow. The Achilles tang likes it, but that's the only thing that does.

Right now:
I pulled out the right back wall strainer.

Trying to catch my cleaner shrimp inside the overflow box.
He has a taste for aiptasia (ate three big ones), but he's ticking off my ducans.

Alright guys

lol
@Brew12 can put it in the Vibrant, archives... ;Writing

Vibrant knocked out @HolisticBear 's bubble algae too... ;Woot ;Woot

It jacked with his wall hammer at first, but he started to spread out the daily dose over many hours, and his wall perked back up.

Just passing it along.

I have seen a lot of wall hammer failures over the years, I can keep most things, still never tried one!

GoVols dairy post for 2019...

First off I've never tried Triton or ATI, but they are not full balling products.

The full balling method:
I've only done AF comp 1+ 2+ 3+ (never tried TM full balling) and it was great.

My ions stabilized out to three even doses and held.

On both the secret is the part 3, they both contain NaCL free salts, with trace elements to keep your ions balanced for a longer period over time.

Definition:
"Aquaforest Reef Mineral Salt is a Sodium Chloride (NaCl) free sea salt. It contains all the other basic components found in natural seawater, such as Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Bromine, Fluorine, Barium, Iodine, and trace elements.

NaCl free salt is one of the most important components of the Balling method, and it plays a significant role when Calcium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate supplementation is in place.

It is a common misconception among reefers that administering NaCl free salt is primarily supposed to replenish trace elements. The main task of Sodium Chloride free salt is to maintain ionic balance of aquarium water."

With that said...
I was contacted my another member earlier in the year.
He had been dosing two part BRS cal and alk for a very long time and knew I balled in the past.

Over time his doses got way off from each other and asked if I though TM part C would help to balance his doses back inline. After long thought, I told him the TM part C should work.

Well,
He took the plunge and started dosing TM part C with BRS cal and alk.
We kept in-touch for a fairly long time, but TM's part C was doing the job and his cal and alk doses were breaking out more even.

If you dose the third part, then dose to the same as the lower of the two, to your cal and alk's dose.

lol
I think Hans (Full Balling Method) could be better than two part + mag over the long haul for ion balance, but please don't tell Randy...

Thus ends
GoVols Dairy post for 2019.

What made you go with AF over TM seeing TM claims to be the original Balling Method as the guy that started it is their scientist or something like that.
I’ve tried the old and new pharma BRS stuff and my tank did not like it, nothing ever held, ESV has been my go to but I’ve never tried the balling method.

Hitman.
Deepwater Aquatics cut an deal with me in late 2015 with AF full balling.

Have a ton of respect for @Lou Ekus with TM USA, and he's the one who taught me what one of the important things than Magnesium does, many many years back. It's like oil to an engine. Corals cannot intake cal and alk if your mag is too low. Their ions will bind together without proper mag levels.

May have tried TM Full Balling, but moved back to an cal reactor.

Always heard ESV is a great product, and ATI E's and ATI Pro has some very happy customers.

I tried going back to Brightwell's code A and B, but Full Balling gave a lot better results too.

Ok so seeing that I just received all my 14 Acros I got on the WWC lightning sale and I am holding them in my 100 gallon holding tank that has never been dosed in ( water changes only as it’s just been fish ) I need to either set up my DOS or my coral box doser on it. Would your recommend staying with ESV that I’m familiar with or trying the balling method? From yesterday when I put the frags in the tank to this afternoon my Alk dropped 0.5 DKH CA dropped 10 ppm

I'd stay with ESV. Your already use to dosing it, and it does contain trace elements.

Just doing an ole GoVols diary log, like we used to way back when this build thread got going.

Wanted to clear up what the third part of full balling is really made for, and the theory behind it.

Hans Warner is a smart cookie

Nice shot Freddie. ;Drool

Thanks Pancho,

Just happy that your reef is on the upswing.

Is that your first Apex controller, or did you upgrade to a newer model of Apex?

It is my first Apex controller so I am learning a lot. Any tips are appreciated.
