How did GoVols truly come to understand precipitation by means of overdosing???

Welp,
I take my time when I cycle a tank. To myself cycling and fast do not belong in the same sentence.

So, We bought the S-400 and I let it cycle and was not concerned about keeping the big 3 inline during the cycle.
So, Cycle is all good and I'm ready to raise the big 3.

At that time I'm using Seachem Reef Adantage cal and mag with Reef Builder.
So I did the math and hit the tank with the cal and alk.

#'s drop... I took it the wrong way and got the great Idea that a bigger dose will raise up the cal and alk.
So the next day I did the math to the new lower parameters and hit it again.

Big mistake!!!!!!!
Within 10 minutes my sand hardening up / by fifteen minutes all my glass was frosted and by 25 minutes all of my pumps were seizing up. :eek:

Now, I go back a read the Seachem buckets. The math was correct but I just dosed 5 x's over the max daily dose.

Yes, 5 x's over the max!!!

Welp,
That was a fun week of scraping all the frosted glass / breaking up a rock hard sand bed and vinegar soaking all the pumps.

But (lol) I truly understood what overdosing and precipt. meant. :)

How to turn a bad into a good???

Well from the above post. :eek:
I never broke up the rock hard sand under the base rock.
So, When I went Bare Bottom the base rock is flat bottomed because the sand has been fused to the rock.

One time I pulled a small rock out and tried to get the sand to break away. Before the sand would come off, the small rock split in-half.

So now I can move the base rock around but it holds tight because it's heavy and flat and I do not have to worry about the scape falling in or slipping on the bare bottom floor because the base rock is not going anywhere unless I move it. :)

Nice! I used two tubes of epoxy and neither the hot pink nor grey epoxy particularly blends in.

I was on one of Randy's forums and told the OP about my flat base rock and (lol) he did a mega overdose to get his sand to bond to his rocks base.

WOW!!! Luckily so far I never overdosed anything. I tend to underdose and be on the safe side, test again later and dose again if need be.

I must say that would have been really interesting to see however [emoji2]

Today's post.
GoVols: Has a wonderful family. :)

There is six of us kids and the two oldest were born in Germany before our father wanted to come to North America.

My oldest sister is married to a wonderful man of many talents. He is not my brother-in-law, he is my brother.
He is an engineer by trade but Morton Salt sent him to Depaul in the late 70's because they wanted him to run their plants and go into management.
My sister's family always had to keep moving because Morton would want him to run another salt plant.
He finally got called to Chicago at the Morton Salt headquarters. My sister was just happy that all the moving, over decades was over.
Years later he retired as a vp and reported to the bod.

He's always loved doing art as well and they retired in Athens, GA. He gets to go to the UGA for free because of his age but he is very healthy.
His art goes to gallery's and a very nice present came in today's mail.

His got Oakley's name wrong but that's okay.:)
He took the time to paint myself and Oak and here's some shots.

(lol) Today's second post...
I was not paying attention to the tds meter on the ro/di unit.
About a week ago is see some scum on the back wall. Check the ro/di meter and it has been at 1. :(

So, While I placed an order for a "Blue Bucket" I ordered the filter change for the ro/di unit and a new Red Sea 225 micron filter sock. :)

Ready to replace RODI filters and mix a salt batch for Friday nights water change.

Called Seachem and asked them, how long do I need to wait before I can raise the big 3???

Got a good look at the back wall scum and it's diatoms. Out of everything out there I'll take diatoms and that is from me not checking the tds meter on the RO/DI unit. It's has been recharged and over time the diatoms will burn off it's fuel. Probably silicates.

If nothing else, please come away with these two things from this thread.

1) Do Not zero out your refractormeter to RODI water. Use a good .35 solution. My reef is at the mercy of the (TLF) .35 natural seawater solution.

2) When you open a new bucket or box of any salt mix. Test the big 3 after the first batch has been mixed before it hits your tank.
I don't care if your mix comes with qc sheets / labels or not. Things happen and please test the big 3 on the first mixed batch.

So, I just tested the new "Blue Bucket" on it's first mix and here are it's #'s as I see it.

SG - 1.025 (1/2 cup per gallon)
Cal - 420
Alk - 8.5 dkh
Mag - 1290

I'll take those #'s. :)

This makes me happy buddy. I'll order another bucket during the BRS R2R bulk order next month. And of course, yet more Hanna regents :)

We both saw the Poland guy's test results with all those brands and his closing comments.
You bought the Blue Bucket and it matched your homes test and it nailed your lab test results too.

So, I followed your lead. :)
