Gph for 20 gallon tall tank?

How much gph should I have for a 20 gallon tank? Is 500 too much? Should I get higher or lower?

I would take a pic but I’m not home at the moment .
I have it where there’s a good amount of surface agitation and good flow for the corals

Better if your keeping sps and probably some lps. Worse for some softies especially mushrooms

Yes. For the corals you have now, you don't need even 100gph. However, if you plan on having the tank for a while, then the 500 is a great choice.

I have a 160 gph and it barely does anything. I might get a 40 gallon breeder next summer but I don’t know about that yet

I don't know what your budget looks like, but if you can live with the crappy 160 for a while and save up for a Vortech MP10QD...They are adjustable and you could literally take it from your 20 to the 40 and just ramp it up. They are sooooo adjustable AND it has a ton of different wave settings to mimick to ocean.
