GPH for my new 125gal build

I am new to this hobby and am upgrading from a 20 to 125 gallon after 1 year and am unsure of the GPH for my new reef set up. My return pump is a "quiet one 3000" , which states a little over 700 gph and I just purchased two tunze 6105 stream powerheads. My question is does the two powerheads add to the flow equation needed for a reef tank, or is it just the return pump? Obviously if it is only the return pump, I am very short of the power if I need a minimum 10gallons per hour per gallon of tank for a reef tank

However if the powerheads add to the flow then I have more than enough since each Tunze can put out over 3000gph. Please advise

you should be getting most of your flow with power heads and not your return pump. Typically if you run a fuge you want the flow to be a little slower. Any return pump 700-900GPH is fine in your case. Your flow will really be determined by the types of corals you keep. SPS obviously require much more flow than LPS/softies....

I generally go with the combined. BUT, I usually oversize my return pump and valve it back as well. Is the 125 drilled? Are they corner overflows? You won't have much movement through the sump with a smaller return...or add a second return to boost the turn over there.

I'm using a Jebao DCT-6000 on my 125 gallon tank. I like the fact that I can vary the speed directly without partially deadheading the discharge. I play with the flow several time a week to vary the residence time in the sump.

I do have an overflow, 1 inch single, and i did add a ball valve to the return when I set it up today and it is a corner overflow
