Just got a mini-colony of grandis paly's from my lfs (~25 polyps) $50. I love these things so any help or advice on caring for them would be greatly appreciated. :help:

Wow you got 25 polyps for $50? Nice score. Those usually run about 25pp.

I think they are hardy and tolerate a wide range of conditions. They grow fairly quick if you give them good light, flow and water conditions. I don't target feed mine but they seem to catch food when I feed my fish.

I was in total shock when I asked the price and he said $50. I even asked how many polyps and he said the entire rock which blew my mind. He said I was a good customer and he didn't feel like fragging the colony. I'll post a photo tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Here is what I got. They are on the sandbed right now. Can't believe this was $50.

Great score my friend.
You should sell some in your local club to make up for the cost.
I have them for sale at $10 PP and I can't grow them as fast as the sell.
They sure are slow growers but can tolerate all kinds of light.
Not to much flow and once a while a shot of Phyto feast.

Thanks for the information! I was going to wait awhile to see if I can find a good spot in my tank before attempting to frag them. I want to make sure they are healthy before I sell them to friends. How slow do they grow?

Slow.
But it all depends on the system they are in.
I grew the once I had from 3 polyps to 12 polyps in three years, I think you can say slow.

+1 on the slow had 2 polyps for a year before a baby popped. Something I have recently noticed though my chunk was moved several months ago to a tank with a cheap led unit. As cheap goes the blue channel died. Under all white the have exploded in growth. Maybe just needed a few years to settle in (got the originals when those plastic coral cradle plugs were the rage, 5+yrs ago?) Or perhaps the winter light is the key.

i got 1 polyp about 10 months ago and now they are over 20+ polyps . i give mine around 200 par under T247 LEDs and low flow and they love it
Here is what they look like

RIP my gandis/cinnamin paly's

Easy peezey to take care of. Moderate light and water movement. Reef quality water wouldn't hurt. Mine before rabbit fish ate them. Had these for over 6 years too.
