Gratuitous Baby Cardinalfish thread

The male is just about ready to be stripped again.
Does anyone know if I can just put both batches of fry together?
If I do that then we'll get a really good idea of the growth rate.

We need more tank raised fish to buy. Especially with these guys as they are at risk in the wild. I am so happy to hear people are doing this! Again thanks!

hmmm not sure, I think I saw where you can. I'll try digging around and see what I come up with. If the tank is big enough you could put a diver in it and just keep them side by side but separated.

:: divider, not diver. :::facebook::: hopefully you read it the way I meant it.

cool; I have another tank ready to go; it'd just simplify things If I could keep them all together. I do have a filter rated for a 40 gallon tank in there (only turn it on occasionally when I stir up the bottom to get all the detritus; its too much flow otherwise.)

Yes! I just saw a baby cardinalfish try to scarf down a mysids shrimp! My BBS routine may be comin g to a close!
Poor thing had it half out of his mouth for awhile! They have to eat so many BBS now I try to grow some out and at least give them one easy meal a day.

Almost off BBS! Here they're gorging on newly hatched BBS.
I have 1 baby that survived in my sump. No feedings on purpose. He is around 3 months old I would guess.
I cant catch my males to strip so my babies always become reef food.

Those are awesome man! And 45$ each at my lfs, the prices for them here are ridiculous and they are hard to keep happy, I think you have it figured out tho. You may have a cash crop on your hands :) all looking good too!

So I have been sending some of your videos from here to the mrs. Today's got the following response: "If baby fish are going to look as cute as those cardinal fish, maybe you should turn the bowfront into a breeder ;)"
That was permission to get another tank or 2 to grow out babies...

Might be. For reference, the bowfront in question...

Yup I think you have a new reefing topic to start covering ;)

They're great! I've gotten the brine shrimp thing down; still cant get the shrimp to grow very fast but I have a little tank I fill with Phyto and put excess in there to tide the little guys over till the next batch of shrimp is ready. 1/2 the work of staggering batches.
But, about 1/2 are eating frozen! so there is a light at the end of the brine shrimp tunnel.
They're getting big! I'm converting a move to a gif now...
