Gravity ato

I bought the $100 nano tunze and it works on my 40g with a 29g sump. I like it because of the auto time out in case of float mishaps.

I was doing some siphoning and saw when water levels were the same the water stoped when it was lower the water wold add can I do a ato just that way?

Yes, you sure can. I've been using gravity fed ATOs (a large 'PEt Bottle') for nearly five years on a nano tank. Very reliable way to keep a stable water level and very convenient for dosing Kalkwasser.

The principle can be scaled up to a larger sized tank using a much larger bottle(s), but would be most unobtrusive down with the sump.

+1 I use gravity fed ato also works very very well and great for dosing kalkwasser as mentioned already

I gravity feed to 5 gallon bucket outside my house. Using a kent float valve. If the valve sticks, and the bucket over flows, no big deal. I then go thru the wall using an aqua lifter pump hooked to my controller for top off. I never have to carry heavy containers to top off my top off container.

In this method, you do have to use a float switch correct?

I have 2 float switches in the sump. First one is on/off. The second is for if the first sticks on, it will shut off the pump.
