Gravity Auto top off for 1 gal tank?

So I have a one gal tank, and I've been struggling with evaporation, I attached an upside down bottle to my tank, but it's is quite unattractive and it works, but it keeps the water level too low, I was wondering if I could poke a hole in a cap of a water bottle stick some airline tubing into the cap and then raise it so it's above my tank and reaches the desired water level, or is their another way that involves less hassle? I want to keep it simple, no electricity whatsoever

It's the same principle if you raise it higher, however, I might suggest using rigid airline tubing if you go this route. The other option you might try would be testing how much water you evaporate in a day and setting up a dripper from a container with only that amount of water. You should be able to set it slow enough to be a continuous drip maximizing stability. The only maintenance would be refilling the bottle and testing SG every few days to make sure your evaporation rates are constant. I would also recommend the dripper route because the bottle system you are currently using touches the water. If I'm thinking of the correct system. Through the process of diffusion, the sodium and other molecules would transfer from high concentration (tank) to the low concentration (top off water) quite quickly. Thus making your top off salt water and throwing the stability. I tried to use the same method of gravity fed ato when setting up my nano but quickly changed to cheap Jeabo doser dripping exactly how much RO/DI water+ BRS Kalk that I evaporate in a day. Although this system seems more complicated and might not feel worth it now, the automation and stability are worth $50 for the pump.
