Green Algae Appearing? Normal or do I need to do something?

If i understood well it is a new tank. The maturation process will pass through various phases (not always present) such as green diatoms, green algae, hair algae ecc. It is normal.

Ok thanks. I thought so but just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

i guess I am going through that green algae stage. Not fun. Although I had a friend named Algae once and he was a real funghi :)

Diatoms? Few weeks to few months (up to 6 months for some - me included). Algae (depending on the type) is more of a management issue than an elimination issue and it's ongoing. Part of the joy of the hobby. Do keep an eye out for the more destructive types (dinos for instance) and even too much of relatively harmless GHA can choke out corals. Good luck!

Totally normal. Just keep nitrates around 2-5ppm and phosphates around .04-.08ppm and it’ll clear up on its own. Adding a little beneficial bacteria daily will help speed things along.

So how bad is it going to get LOL! Should I expect green to cover everything?

You may find it helpful to post your water chemistry parameters and how long they have been stable.
You want to rule out water very soon, to ensure that your whole tank does not become infested.
There are things we can do to speed up this part and reduce pests to the min.

When you say post water parameters, specifically which ones? I know there are the basics. So for that my numbers have been consistent for past few weeks:

Salinity - 1.25
Temp has now been consistent for past week at 78. Prior to that It has fluctuated between 72-78 due to lack of correct heaters. But that is resolved.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrates - 5.0ppm
PH - 8.2
Phosphates - 0.21

Is there anything else I should be testing for at this time. I have no corals yet.

Thanks

How about phosphate level, it’s the “green” maker.
If it’s 0.03-.1ppm along with those numbers above are fine, good job, keep them stable and let nature help you.
