Green Algae in saltwater

Yea it's got a basic light that came with the tank. It's an aqueon tank and light
Id have to say check the water first. Ive been there.
water, tap and some bottles have stuff to kill bacteria and algaes. some are resilient. so i see this(you tank symptoms) when the water is bad. the odd green strain is really odd, and the side convo was I only see it in LFS copper wall tanks.
but inverts should die in low dose copper.

its marginally possible you have copper in the system and you could test for it. It would have had to come in on rock, if it was used rock its possible.
my tds meter was cheap. I dont know how much the copper test is.

I have used prime before but not lately. I would think copper too but then the snails would be dead but they are doing fine
yup. Id start w water. go from there. the "aggressive" bacteria will clear up a lot of bad water stuff. Nothing in the tank you could do a 100% safely.

Possible filter media I could use? I have a marineland 200B so I could do a carbon and something in a filter cartridge....

yes carbon will help a bit. but it depends on what the contaminant is. If there is one.
it really depends on whats really going on. and thats hard or gets expensive to test for.
usually the easiest and most economical is a definitely and tested good source of water and correctly mixed.

I stated earlier that I'm using RO water from my LFS. Just an update for everybody I have been doing the blackout and it's Def working the algae is starting to subside. Gonna keep on it then do a 25% water change and hopefully keep it under control

The fluorescent bulbs can help algae grow with the change in light spectrum as it ages. If it comes back when you go back to regular light schedule I would change bulbs

So replaced the bulb with another light type and kept with the blackout for a little longer and finally the algae is starting to subside. Has anyone used the Acintic (sp?) Blue light before? I really like how it looks! Now just to finally get some fish and this restart will be complete. Probably gonna go with two black clownfish....Any thoughts? 20161227_164952.jpg
