I see my first specks of green algae after 3 weeks. I'm pretty sure its coming from me overfeeding. I tested nitrates after a 15 gallon water change. Less than 5ppm. Salinity is 1.023, phospahate 0. pH is 8.0. So I also added some activated carbon into my aquaclear along with some phospguard. Is this overkill since my phospahates are reading 0? Or is the reading I am getting 0 is because the algae is consuming the phospahtes therefore giving me a "false reading"? I am also going to back off on the lights. I will run more blue than white for a couple of days. I also am going to add a small CUC, since the algae isn't out of hand I'll probably add a few blue hermit crabs, couple of snails, and an emerald crab. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

The tank is new and your going trough new tank uglies. Start adding some cuc.

Don't start chasing numbers. Your tank has to mature.
what's test kit are you using. Having zero is not good. Ideal for phosphate is .5 the nitrate 5-10. Activated carbon doesn't do Much for no3 po4. As you add fish these numbers will come up .

API for test kit. Should I be scraping the brown algae off and the green as it comes on the dry rock? Also, does this make it worse? I'm assuming as you kill the algae nitrates will spike as well.
