Just picked up a green apple scoly

any info on how to be succesful with this

wanna make sure not missing any care points

i find that lower flow is essential.

i took the foam cover off of my mp10s and the increased flow really hammered my scoly and it never puffed up, and ended up receding a tiny bit. once i moved it to a lower flow area it immediately started recovering. it was also a slightly lower light area too.

Lower flow, lighting can be anywhere from low to medium. Pretty much the same as a chalice/zoas in terms of placement.

IME, feeding is key. Just a couple mysis shrimp 1-3 times a week makes a huge difference! They get fatter, healthier, better colors, etc. They’ll take any frozen, meaty food I’ve used mysis, LRS, Rod’s, etc it all works just fine. Not too much food at once though, corals can choke! Maximum size food for a regular size scoly I’d say is about cherry pit size :)

6/7 of my babies :) 3 regular scolys and 3 button scolys

As with most- Moderate light and water flow. Feed 2-3X weekly

salinity 1.025
temp 77-79
ph 8.1- 8.3
alk 8-9
mag 1300
CA 440
phos < .05
Nitrate < .03

.03 Nitrate holy smokes. I don't think I've ever had mine anywhere near where my phosphates are (typically .04-.10). My nitrates are 6-7 ppm now do you think long term a Scoly will suffer at this range or stability is the key?

.03ppm nitrate I am sure is a typo. I don't think test kits even measure down that far!

6-7ppm is fine. Mine like to be fed a couple times a week. The day or two after they get all puffy..

I hope so. I do have Hanna low range testers so it would measure that low (btw I use the dilution steps as my corals seem to be happier 5-10 ppm for nitrates).

My nitrates are 15-20 and my Scoly is very happy, so don’t worry too much about that. Low flow and lower light are clutch as other have said. They definitely like to eat! Shoot I feed mine almost every other day. But the other thing I think is important is a temp of 77F or below. Scolys are found in deeper, cooler water naturally. This is a great video about scoly care, he talks about the temperature around 2:10 into the video but the whole thing is good.
