Not my fish, me! I feel sick... Had the tank aprx. 3months. Tank cycled for 6 weeks before adding fish. All was going well a few weeks into having fish. Some numbskull (me) decided to add a bag of "reef pods" (in the green water) and a couple of days later my water was cloudy with a green tint, with a green coating starting on anything that didn't move. Amm is 0, nitrate is 0, phosphate is maybe a hair off 0. Tank is a JBJ 30 w/ 1 clown (the other went carpet surfing 1 night ) 1 kupang damsel, 1 yellow wrasse, & 1 temporary little sailfin tang. May have over fed a little, but not enough to create this mess! Fish seem to be OK, active & eating.

I've been doing 4 gallon wc's every 2 days, minimal feeding, bagged some GFO in the filter, cycling the lights during the day 2 hours on 1 off. It may be a little better after 5 days but there' still a ways to go. I've ordered a skimmer that should be here in a few days, is there anything else to do? How long will it take to be rid of this mess? Any thoughts on how to recover are welcomed!

My FW tank sits there crystal clear seeming to laugh asking why I ever wanted to do SW...

Sounds like it is just the culture from the reef pods...phyto. Continue with your water changes and make sure you hook up that skimmer as soon as you get it. Good luck and keep us updated!

I have known a few people that had this happen. Just keep up with water changes, feed sparingly and even limit light to just feeding time for a few days.

Thanks all, good to know that it isn't catastrophic and there is hope. Looking at it this morning still makes me wonder. Off to do a WC...
