Hi All,

I have a healthy Green Aussie Torch that I have had in the DT since Jan, growing nicely in size with skeleton splitting etc as you would expect as it grows.

This week I noticed a couple of teeny hitchhikers growing in the rock and then couple more growing in the rock over the other side of the tank. They look like really tiny Torch corals with green stalks and cream tips.

I didn't think Torches reproduced like this unless there were multiple colonies in the tank? Could these be Majano. At the moment they are really small so its so hard to tell but thought I would try get and upload a pic to see if anyone could shed any light on them.. Counted 6 in total growing out of the rock work.

Thanks in advance.

Is it live rock or is it dead rock in your reef.

If live rock where did you get it?

Looks like possible cup/tube type coral which can be a common hitch hiker on aquaculture Caribbean rock..

I have over 10 years experience with Anemonia majano.
I have seen them in many different sizes, shapes, and color patterns.
So far none of the 1000+ I have eradicated looked like what is in your pictures.

So either this is a new morph, or you are lucky with your Euphyllia.

It was "dead rock" when I put it in. Caribsea Life Rock, although it's established some what now over the last 12 months and has Spirorbid worms, spaghetti worms, tube worms that have hitchhiked on snails / CUC all generally good things.

Im very much hoping that these are baby torches and not pest anemone, which I could only think could have possibly come in on some Macro algae that I added to my sump about 1 month or so, although this was dipped but thats no guarantee.

They are baby torches, most of the euphyllia in my tank have reproduced that way as I have tons of tiny ones scattered throughout the tank.

Any success on raising them?

Yeah the torch only spawned one though from what I could find, my gold hammer went crazy though and it's pretty much all over, last time I counted them it was around 5-6 babies.

Awesome! Had another look tonight with the wife and we spotted a few more, counted 10 in total :)

seems like party time in my tank at the moment, the Turbos just reproduced too and have about 20 babies

Just out of interest / curiosity, do you run any night time / moonlighting on your tank?

I used to, but not anymore. So far it's just been Euphyllia so far for me, but my bubble has done it once. I guess they're just happy enough to be doing their thing.

polyp bailout re-production , I have seen alot of lps do this before , when little pieces are flying around the tank for no reason then land and attach blam !

Congrats! if you need help getting rid of one I’ve got an empty rack lol.
