Trying to figure out what’s going on with my green birdsnest.

No visable pest
Slower tissue decay
Did not start from the base
Decay is spotty

Alk: 8
Ph: 8.2
Calc: 400-420
Nitrate: 2-3
Salinity: 34-35
Phos: .3

Manual top off
Manual dose
Typical refuge/skimmer set up

Looks like a possible bacterial infection or something is munching on it. It is always a difficult thing to determine. Try a MediCoral dip or similar.

Iodine based dip? For how long? I’ve tried revive without luck.

Thanks for the response!

7-10 minutes. Revive is more of a rinse than an "antibacterial" dip. I should point out MediCoral is not really an antibacterial agent but an oxidizer.

I watched last night for any night bugs picking at him, and nothing. LSF only had
7-10 minutes.
i just did my first 10 min Brightwell aquatics medicoral. Consecutive days of dipping? I plan to cut off the bad branches tomorrow

It was up top with a stylo. Stylo is still happy as can be. I have since moved it down. 200 gallon bow. It helped, but not fixed.
This can happen just with 'moving it down'. The light change - can cause this - no clue if this is the specific cause or not - but - it has happened. Did you happen to bump it/scratch it when you 'moved it' - since small areas of damage can often then allow bacteria to enter - I might frag off the good pieces. If you decide not to do this - let everyone know - because every time this has happened to a Coral of mine - it 2 weeks its gone.

Can be daily as needed. Don't over-stress. See how it responds one or two dips and proceed as needed.

You can easily get 15 different responses to this (all helpful) but just to throw one more in the mixing pot. This happened to me when my doeser decided to go nuts and cause a large alk swing. After correcting the issue the birdsnest recovered in about a week. Oddly it was the only coral that really reacted to it.

I have dipped the green birds nest 2 days in a row, and fed a mixture of coral foods tonight without dipping. 3 nights total since post.

20 drops of Brightwell aquatics medi coral for 10 min.

5 min rinse in tank water

I have seen positive progress. It’s not peeling away. The polyps look good especially on healthier branches. I have not cut off bad beaches yet due to noticeable progress.

Thanks guys for the info and response.

Been told that the birds nest is the canary of corals. If something is going on in the system the birds nest is the first to show signs and issues. There may be an underlying issue at hand here... can’t say I know what but keep looking it’s what makes this hobby fun! Good luck!!! And sorry I couldn’t add much.
