Green Bubble Tip Nem

Hey guys need a little help.

I grabbed a green bubble tip and acclimated him in a container with my clowns and got him to eat some shrimp.

So we moved him to a spot in the tank that we thought he would like. But he has retreated into a hole that will make it near impossible to remove.

Any ideas on how to help him move his way out of there?

Holy smokes! How long have you had him? If it has only been a few days give him time and he might come out.

This isn't uncommon. pretty much every nem I've ever had will typically hide right away.then come out and move around till it finds a spot it likes.

If you can, you may want to turn your lights down a bit and see if he comes out.

how old is the tank? that rock looks too clean for an established tank.

I don't want to hijack the thread but an "established tank" isn't a necessity for a nem. It is a very excellent option but raising and keeping anemones have been achieved in not established tanks with very similar results.

Thanks for the very quick replies everyone. I have heard that they may sometimes hide and obviously search for a spot to call home, so that was not unexpected.

My concern is the ability to get him out if he decides not to come back out.

I am running my lights lower than the normal AB program for acclimation.

The tank is young and quite clean yes but I'm very meticulous with my maintenance and water changes currently and ensuring stable water parameters. It is purely dry rock that was cured for along time to rule out phosphates.

The diatom and hair algae stages are behind me and my cuc does a great job.

I agree dial down your lighting.

Remember moving the anemone is of no avail, the anemone is going to go where it goes, moving probably causes undo stress.

I'll add that BTA are incredibly hardy, I have introduced them to younger tanks without incidence as long as water chemistry was in line. As for other anemone types such as Carpets, Magnificent/Ritteri, Sebae there is little room for error, an established tank is optimal.

I would not have added any other anemone that required a more established tank.

In regards to the light I'm currently running at 35% and 7 hour photoperiod.

I fear any lower and I may affect other corals.

Man, I wish I could figure out why BTAs don't like my tank. It's been running for over a year and a half, and I just can't seem to keep a BTA. In my old tank, it was not an issue at all, but in this tank, the BTAs just slowly wither away. My long tentacle anemone, on the other hand, has given me no problems whatsoever. I don't get it.

what kind of water do you use? just curious

How long have you had the anemone? Were you running the light at 37% when you introduced the BTA.

I know a ton of hobbyist keep BTA under LEDs with great success, that has not been my experience.

Acclimation of the BTA was done at 35% off to the side of the tank...I had it floating in a basket with the clownfish and has been in the tank for approx two weeks.

I haven't changed the lighting since adding the BTA to the tank.
