I got two new fish today - a Midas blenny and a green clown goby (shipped from LA). The blenny has taken over a cave in my QT and happily looks out at us. He ate some frozen food too. The goby, when I first put him in the tank, tried to dig under my rock but I don’t have sand in QT, just glass pebbles. So, he’s hanging out in the corner looking really stressed. He hasn’t eaten. What should I put in QT to make him more comfortable? I put a little plastic piece in that’s like a little tunnel but he hasn’t gone near it. He is alive and not breathing hard (at least as far as I can tell) but I want to make him more comfortable.

If the goby just arrived and is not in obvious physical distress just leave him alone with the lights low and give him time. They are cryptic fish- hiding is what they do
+1 agreed

How long before I should worry if he hasn’t eaten? My Midas begs to eat every time I walk over there. The lights are off, much to my 9 year old’s dismay lol. I’ll just keep watching him. He seems pretty robust while the Midas is a bit thin.

I have a green clown goby in QT right now as well!
And it's acting the same way - mostly hunkering down on the bottom in inconspicuous places.
After a couple of days, it would start moving around a bit when I put food in the water.
And now it will dash out and grab a piece of food or two before hunkering down again.
These fish are never very active, so I consider this normal behavior.
I have another one in a DT for about a year and it acts the same way; never eats very much.
It would probably like an SPS to perch on but that's not really necessary.

I have a really nice coral skeleton in my DT that he should love. It's too big for the QT, and it has a brittle star in it anyway.

idk what kind of brittle star you have, but some are predatory & will eat fish. My green clown goby would stay in the recesses of the coral, then dart out & get the food, had him for years

It’s a tiny hitchhiker, probably a micro brittle. Maybe 2” in diameter.

Worried about my little goby this morning because I couldn't find him anywhere in the tank! Then my son found him hiding in the little plastic thing I put in there hoping he'd use it as a cave. Yay! Now he has a more appropriate place to hide himself - and that means he went all the way to the other side of the tank (he hadn't moved from his corner at all until now).

He finally ate! Took 2.5 days and he didn’t eat a lot but he grabbed 2 pieces of food that floated his way tonight and has been checking out other parts of the tank. Yay!!

They really like perching on things. I would recommend something that he can perch on. They are usually found on sps. Branching leathers are a suitable substitute. Just what I observed

Wonder if we could do it in 3g?
