Hi everyone!

So 3 days ago I bought a green clown goby from the pet store on impulse because I have been looking for one forever, and I am an idiot.

In the car on the way home I notice the dreaded white spots =[

I didn't want to just take him back. He's a cutie, and I think I'm up for the challenge of curing this little guy.

Anyway, I have a reef and some other fish [not really important] so I put him in a 5 gallon bucket makeshift quarantine tank. He has a 10g tetra whisper filter with no carbon and a tiny heater.

I went to the only store here that sells sw and they had 2 options for treatment: a huge bottle of reef safe ich treatment which would have cost me $30, or a $7 copper treatment called coppersafe which the manager of the store recommended.

needless to say, I got the coppersafe. I am a poor college kid.

I used half water from my disp tank to avoid a cycle and half new water. The levels are fine 0s for everything except nitrate which is around 5 or so. I followed the directions on the coppersafe [chelated copper] and added like 4ml or something to the bucket.

QUESTION: how long do I leave him in the quarantine with copper running? It says 4 weeks, but I have heard only use 2 weeks for gobies. After the 2 weeks (or 4) do I draw the copper out (water change too) and leave him in isolation until he's ready to go in the reef?

Also, I am having a REALLY hard time getting him to eat. I have tried mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, 2 kinds of flake, bloodworms, and krill. I turn off the filter and everything. he just isn't interested. I'll try garlic, but what if that doesn't work? can I use one of those couple day feeders to force nutrients into him? lol

and yes I am sure its Ich. I can't get a real good picture of him right now.

any help or advise is appreciated! Thank you so much!

One thing I would do is get a copper text kit to make sure that you don't over/under dose the copper. You need to make sure it tests for chelated copper. Then, you can soak the food in garlic to entice the fish to eat. Take a garlic clove and mash it with a spoon. Pour the juice in the food mix and feed it to the fish. Good luck!!

I like to QT fish for at least 6 weeks.

Thank you! Do I leave the copper running for 6 weeks? That seems like a long time. I have tried the garlic. It isn't working. He seems happy though. He's a fast little guy. Not lethargic at all so, I guess thats a good sign. Maybe he's eating when I'm not looking. I target feed him and turn the filter off.
