I just found out that cyanobacteria can kill me. does anyone know if that is true, because I just got a cyanobacteria bloom. I'm trying to get rid of it I put another wavemaker because I think the problem is the flow. but I'm still kind of scared from the cyano

It won't kill you. I have no clue how that would even be possible

had it in my 75,,,,, chemiclean+ 3 day black out+20-30% water change it was gone in a week to week 1/2.
didnt kill any of my employees or customers where its located so i think your fine. i had it at least a month before treatment,
it ended up being wATER i was using.. only use ro/di now

It is not the monster from the black lagoon stalking you in your sleep. You will be fine, pinky swear! There are easy treatments for cyano. Chemiclean is the go to... water changes.... remember to add an airstone when you use the chemiclean as it will deplete oxygen in the tank.

Many bacteria can kill you. Luckily for you cyanobacteria is not one of them... well... at least if you don´t ingest a ton of it :)

how did you come to that conclusion?

i'm pretty sure you need to eat shellfish that has eaten (filter feed cyano) to have any major negative side effects or swim in waters with toxic strain

Started up a 10 gallon freshwater last year and my husband put the pepper's grow lights right next to it. Came back a couple days later to test ammonia in the cycle and the whole thing was one thick mat of cyano. Chemiclean and a blackout is honestly a miracle. Siphoned all the clear dead cyano out with the next water change and with a tiny bit of effort it looked like nothing ever happened. Also, I didn't die :3
