I've been getting this film algae only rock work lately. Doesn't seem to grow on the sandbed at all. Maybe green cyano but not sure.
What is really problematic is that it seems to be able to grow directly on the coral tissue causing recession and skeleton exposure which causes more algae growth.....
I've been using a turkey baster to blow off the corals every other day to keep them as clean as I can but there is noticeable damage.
Planning to do a decent water change tomorrow. I'm generally kinda lazy about water changes, so the below water tests are not what I expected
I tested phosphate(hanna checker ULR phosphorous converted to phosphate) and nitrate (cheap api kit need a better test) and got .1ppm and 0ppm
nitrate is an older test kit but shows 2018 as expiration. just a cheap API kit from when I first got into the hobby. Planning to get a better kit over the weekend at LFS. But I was surprised by the numbers.
I generally feed a cube of frozen siprulina brine or mysis. And the Autofeeder drops fauna Marin s pellets a couple times per day. So I'm not starving the tank for nutrients. I don't think anyway.
90g RR w/ 40g sump
ca 480
alk 9.2
sg is normal
I did recently start running zeovit. I'm thinking that even though I started it fairly slow it may have stressed out corals by removing too much nutrients too quickly and shocking the tank a little. All of my fish are acting totally normal and eating well.
Curious on thoughts. I know Zeo is a possible contributor to issues, but I did see the algae prior to starting to run zeo.
Thanks for any advise
