The kh has been kept at 7.9-8.1 tested three times a week, other sps including acros are all doing well.

Yesterday I have done something that might have caused it:
As the monti is in the middle front of the tank the sand has been blown off. I came out an idea using some white gravels for freshwater tank to cover that area. My gf has kept a half bag, but stored with... mothballs, and they smelled heavily of mothballs.
Knowing that putting those directly will nuke the tank, I soaked them in water overnight and that did nothing. I figured mothballs spread through air so I blew them with a small fan for 12hours, afterwards they smelled innocent enough.

I put them in, spreading some accidentally on the montis (red one and green one they grow together). To fix that I use a power head blew the gravels off the monti.

Today the green monti started a widespread tissue problem in the shadowed area. Everything else is happy in the tank, including the red monti. Except for a hermit crab I found out died on the green monti, which I have no idea what to make of it.

So may I ask what did this? Is it related to the gravels at all ? Or caused by the blowing?
