I have green hair algae that literally only grown in 2 spots, I manually pull it (not all, some is too hard to get) and the within a couple weeks it’s back.

I don’t understand why only in these 2 spots though, 1 spot is up high with lots of light but the other spot is lower on a rock close to my sand bed...

Calcium 400ppm
Magnesium 1500ppm
Alkalinity 10.5dkh
Phosphate 0
Nitrate 0

Tested with Red Sea test kits...

Normally with people when they say you have to solve the underlying problem but I’m not sure what my underlying problem is...

Green hair algae will grow just about anywhere. With your nutrients non existent your gonna have more problems than just GHA soon. I would suggest to feed more frozen food to bring up both N03 and P04. Do you have any coral? How many fish? What size tank?

Little bit of everything and mostly healthy, acro have had slow growth probably because of nutrients admittedly.

I would hand remove as much algae as possible and up your CUC a little bit more and also feed a little to bring your nutrients detectable. Definitely wouldn’t want you to run into a dino probably!

First I would make sure it is just GHA and not bryopsis. Get a sample under a magnifying glass if you have not already.

Assuming just GHA you can try a couple things. Best if you can pull the rock from the tank. Hit it with some H2O2 and let it bubble out of the water for 5 minutes. Some folks say boiling hot RODI will also kill it.

If you have to do it "in tank", then turn off the pumps and shoot it with the same from a turkey baster. You will have to repeat every couple of days.

And yes, raise nutrients to avoid dinos and feed corals.

Good luck and have fun!

Watch out . Remember that by manually removing it would cause spores to be release and it will spread all over . I would get a uv sterilizer. And I would get Mexican turbo snail or urchin. It would keep it under control.
