Are they any water quality benefits for having a small amount of green hair algae?

It takes up nutrients like any other algae does. Manual removal helps keep it in check.

Really the only thing it’s useful for is being a good source for inverts. It sucks up nitrates, but only noticeable with a lot, and even then macro or corals are better at it. I’d rather no hair algae than the inevitable spread when there is enough present + available nutrients.

Yeah I have them growing with my algae scrubber. They do well to soak up nutrients.

Well I don't have just green hair algae growing, but other algae as well that helps ensure any excess nutrients is taken up, so that's super good.

I don't have GHA really growing in my display, my cuc takes care of that. Do have cyano though.

My snails were covered like that also and then one night it just disappeared off of them. All clean now again.

I think it helps to keep nutrients in check (especially if running a fowler). I grow an abundance of it in my refugium in addition to many other algae. It keeps it out of the display tank and gives me some peace of mind its helping with nitrates and phosphates. I have a 150 gallon and I do water changes 10% every other week now.
