Green hair algae? Can I keep it?

I’m about a 5 hr drive from Montreal. Or you can blast some live rock w overpowerful lights and grow your own like i accidentally did

I do hope to get a lawnmower for my DT eventually. Afraid it’ll starve now because it’s much too early. Those are all great CUC members. Hope to have some soon

How did you get rid of it?

I lowered my nutrients, grabbed out all I could, started scrubbing rocks and using hydrogen peroxide but it started to effect my corals so I dosed reef flux hd which killed it all

I have a couple rocks just covered in GHA in my fuge. Grows better than my chaeto ever did, and I assume it performs the same function of eating up nitrates. Never seen a trace of it in DT, although I have several good grazing fish that probably mow it down as soon as it pops up.

I'm happy enough with my chaeto, but had considered doing something similar. Why bother with ATS if I have room to let GHA grow on rocks in the fuge? Easy enough to scrub off algae or to drop algae rock into DT for grazing fish and hungry CUC. What has been your experience?

I had green hair algae out compete my Chaeto. Bummed. Need to clean out my fuge and get more Chaeto. I now see some HA on a couple frags.
