Green Hair Algae or My Chia Pet!

This turf algae is like my chia pet lol or my little bush! I was going to remove it but it’s like super glued to the rock lol and I kind of think it’s cute and the only little patch. I knows there’s various ways I could remove it and I know it grows fairly slowly and doesn’t have a lot of natural predators. And I don’t want to dose anything and wipe out all my algae because that’s my starfish’s food and I’m thinking my starfish will eat it at some point.

I will share my chia pet story with you. I had some GHA popping up like that in my 6 month old tank. I also had coralline starting to show up on places and I thought for sure the coralline would outcompete the GHA. Next thing I know I have a jungle. Tuxedo urchins and some turbos were the only things that took the jungle down.

Oh okay that’s good. I am in the same boat…but I’ll definitely remove it at some point. I’ll drain the tank and remove it a pain in the butt. It’s just hard to get to especially since it’s a little lower in the tank. I definitely have lots of small to medium sizes coralline algae patches growing.

You need to watch this to increase your NITRIFYING bacteria so the bacteria eats before everything else doss.

You need to watch this to increase your NITRIFYING bacteria so the bacteria eats before everything else doss.

I actually never looked much into car on dosing. I do add bacteria though. Someone said to try and take a syringe with water. I do know I have a little bit high nitrates but it’s always been like that so part of me just accepted it 0 nitrates longterm is not realistic and not necessarily to be perfect.

No3 = 5
Po4 = 0.08
Stable
LPS Corals have never looks better

It's works for me fabulously. Leading you to water if you want to drink....

Honestly it is just part of the natural tank maturing process. I did not put any harsh chemicals in my tank I just let mother nature take its course and left it up to the urchins and turbos. everywhere I had GHA is now covered in coralline. if you see it starting to progress just take natural options to address it and let you tank work through it as part of the maturing process.

That’s disgusting and you should never do that lol! I’d never want to drink my tank water no matter how clean it looks…just look at a microscope and your view will change lol. Although I do think it would be cool if I could shrink myself and go swimming in my tank lol.

Vetteguy is the man keep it natural for now and watch ur phosphates.
