I have a 90 gallon reef tank with green algae issues. I have tried to remove it by hand and small pieces just float around and start growing everywhere... It is starting to get frustrating. I have 2 clowns, 1 Bangi cardinal, 1 yellow Tang, 1 Cleaner shrimp, 1 Clam, 1 starfish & 80 pounds of live rock... I was feeding 1 or 2 times a day, I now know that is way too much. Now I feed every 2nd day, I hope this is closer to what is required, So now the nutrient levels are hopefully lower. What eats green hair algae but won't eat my inhabitants. I am tired of a green fuzzy tank...

Question 2 What do i use to seed coralline algae to the tank or live rock?
Thanks for the help

Try some phosguard, up the members of your cuc (perhaps an urchin, pincushion is a nice algae eater, as are abalone, and chitons), clean up the detritus in the tank and sump, blow off rocks, clean foam/floss or sock, use only RODI water. Cut back the photoperiod.

How old is the tank?

Go back to feeding your fish daily, they need to eat. What food are you feeding?

After reading some more I only do water changes once a month, but it is about 20 gallon changes on a 90 gallon tank with a 20 or so refugium. Should I do 10 gallon water changes every 2 weeks or stay with my 20 gallon change every 30 days. Thinking about it when I do my water change my skimmer goes nuts... by that I mean it skims its brains out, I go to bed and my overflow tank is full. I raised my skimmer in the refugium and that helped. now 20 days later and the skimmer bubbles are really low. The skimmer overflow is loud raised higher. One problem for another... Thanks

My tank is about 11 months old. I feed frozen brine shrimp, 1/2 the cube, and feed the other 1/2 the next feeding. Then I feed Hikari seeweed extreme granuals the next feeding. I throw in some Seaweed disks or a sheet of seaweed on occasion. Thanks again for the response.

You should be able to adjust your skimmer to get a good skim. I was having this same issue with my 90 about 2 months ago. I added a gfo reactor and a whole bunch of algae siphoning, I think I've got it under control. It helps if you throw a filter sock in the sump, run your siphon out into sock, than brush a little here, little there and suck it all out immediately so the spores don't go everywhere. I did this for hours before adding the gfo, since than algae growth has been very minimal. I would also recommend checking your water parameters, my magnesium was way out of whack. Hopefully some of this helps, Good luck and happy Reefing!
