GREEN HAIR ALGEA GROWTH PROBLEM

Good afternoon to all,

Im having issues battling green hair algea on my 32g biocube. My lifestock is 1 midas blenny , 2 clownfish , 1 firefish i was feeding them very small amount once a day and i have reduced to every other day, my corals which are a couple of acans , 3 hammers and some flower rock nems i feed once a week by spot feeding reef roids one week and change to mysis shrimp the following.

i have tried to add some chaeto to the 2nd chamber underneath the media rack and i am using a magnafuge magnetic light. I am running the light from 11:00pm when the tank lightsgo out to 2:00pm before the tank lights come back on. Its been 3 weeks and hair algea still growing and the chaeto has developed some whiting where the lights shine on it.

Can some please help me with some tips of what i can do to get rid of this algea



I do a 20% weekly water change and test my parameters weekly. They have been stable for the last few months

Your tank looks good. I would siphon it weekly and beef up the CUC. I’ve never used reef roids, but I would consider stopping that (I don’t have RFA’s either) and feeding the fish as much as they need. The nitrites bother me but I bet that is a testing issue.

i feel the same about the nitrates before i was getting .25 on phosphates with the api test and i got the hanna ulr and it was .103 my guess is the api test shows 5 in nitrates because its the lowest they read.

I would recommend adding some hermit crabs, a couple astrea snails, and maybe a money cowrie. Then get some nice macroalgae for the display. It will out compete the undesirable algae.
