Hi - I bought this today as a green hammer but it looks identical to the pictures of Torch Coral - is it a Hammer? (colour not very good on iPhone pic but it is a luminous bright green).

Definitely a torch

ok thanks - are they about the same price to buy??

I'm my area torches are more pricey then hammers. But in my experience they are much more aggressive, so I would give him some space:)

Thats what I thought when looking it up. Was definitely sold to me as a green hammer though. Would they be about the same price to buy or have I been ripped off by paying for a Hammer?? Also, is it pretty much the same care for the torch as hammer (and just as likely to sting other corals)?

In my store torches tend to run about the same as the hammers. Of course that's hard to say because there are so many kinds out there. I think if you paid for the regular run-of-the-mill green hammer then you made out ok. Of course you probably didn't get ripped at all because no matter what they labeled it as (could have just been a mistake in labeling) they probably priced it according to what they paid for it. Either way, I think you did ok on this one.

. Yes thanks - they just had a list of names with prices above the tank - as a newbie I didn't know which was which so he told me the one I was looking at was a green hammer and was one of the more expensive ones because of its colour. I don't really mind what it is as I love it - just a bit frustrating that the shop gives wrong info to a newbie. Just as well there are sites like this! Any special care I need to give it - I feed live plankton and mixed frozen cubes with shrimp etc that they said would be fine for a hammer - assume it is the same for the torch?

They have essentially the same care requirements, so that's fine. Just think.... you can go back and show them which one is actually a hammer and which one is a torch now ;)
