My green mandarin has developed a white spot (circled in red) he is eating fine and acting 100% normal, im worried however its a disease of some sort? I know they are naturally resilient due to their coating but the spot has me worried! All other fish are ok in the tank and all get along fine. Only change is that my young pair of clownfish have started fighting the past few days I assume one is switching to Female. Could this be a wound ? I know the sand sticks to their coating which this doesn't look like to me..

Many thanks in advance !

Looks like his main fin is a bit ripped up. Did you notice this before? Does the wound have depth to it or is it superficial ? Any stinging corals in your tank??

How long u have the the mandarin? I have one and I noticed a smaller scrape but it cleared up after a week. I have to add pods weekly to 10 days. Used to have many but the mandarin eat them over 2 months. Make sure you have pods ..

I have not noticed any aggression towards the mandarin from the clownfish ever, but who knows what happens during the night! The wound doesn't look deep and it doesn't seem to bother him at all, the nip in the fin has been there since I've had him as far as i can remember, it isn't new anyway. The only coral I have which could be stinging is Euphyllia glabrescens, again not sure if this would be the cause?

I would keep my eye on him to be sure. Number one thing relating to a more serious issue is not eating. If he’s still working his way around, eating he should be okay. I would add some pods to be sure :) good luck!

Ive had him 5 weeks, seems happy and eating as normal. I am due a visit to the LFS and will be picking up some more pods.

Update for anyone with the same problem in the future, the damage on his back has slowly got better and is now 90% back to normal with no other strange behavior shown, also he has started eating brine shrimp !

Nice. Glad the fish is making a recovery. That’s great news about the brine. Most take a long time to accept it, mine accepted frozen within a few days! :)
